Christmas on the Desert
Alright, it's Christmas again and again we're far away from home. I'm kinda used to it, no drama. So let me tell you what's the spirit of this season from a "desert" point of view. In here you won't see a single Christmas light blinking that signifies it's the holiday season. No grandpa Santa Clause on red hanging around the corner. No red and green theme everywhere. No gift. No panic shopping. No Christmas carols on the radio and no holiday sale. And of course no famous Christmas Tree. In short, no anything. It's only the cold season and the calendar that reminds us its December.
Without the decoration and all those stuffs how we celebrate the yuletide season. We will simply eat dinner together, we exchange gifts ( minus the Christmas gift wrapper design),we greet each other Merry Christmas and we become more generous with each other ( generous in patience, love, kindness, etc). In a close country where we live in, where we cannot practice our own religion and tradition its been a very big adjustment for a newbie. You will cry on your first year without Christmas, then you will become sad in the second year, a little sadder on your third, and you'll get immune in your fourth, fifth, and as the years go on.
In our hearts we will never forget Christmas, its significance, our family, our friends, the traditions, and the happiness it brings. We celebrate it on our own way wherever we are. The spirit still lives on every corner of our lives. Yes, we are far away from home but we have our technology now to connect with our loves one 24/7. Yes, we don't have the decors but there are a lot of computer applications and web photos to edit those red hat and trees to our photos. It's the spirit of love and giving that we will always remember because at the end of the day, it's still Christmas and it will always be.
